McCain Endorses Obama At The NAACP

From the Associated Press, via YouTube:

[Transcript beginning at 31 seconds in:]

Let me begin with a few words about my opponent. Don’t tell him I said this, but he is an impressive fellow in many ways. He has inspired a great many Americans, some of whom had wrongly believed that a political campaign could hold no purpose or meaning for them. His success should make Americans, all Americans, proud.

Of course, I would prefer his success not continue quite as long as he hopes. But it makes me proud to know the country I’ve loved and served all my life is still a work in progress, and always improving. Senator Obama talks about making history, and he’s made quite a bit of it already. And the way was prepared by this venerable organization and others like it. A few years before the NAACP was founded, President Theodore Roosevelt’s invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine at the White House was taken as an outrage and an insult in many quarters.

America today is a world away from the cruel and prideful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the nomination of an African-American to be the presidential nominee of his party. Whatever the outcome in November, Senator Obama has achieved a great thing — for himself and for his country — and I thank him for it…

Of course Mr. McCain has to say nice things about his opponent.

But why does he say so damn much, and why so damn often?

Three martinis, barkeep!

    With friends like these…

That video was embarrassing and painful to watch. He is a ponderous, pandering, pathetic pretender.

This is so brilliant ! I am from Brussels and I read a lot of your work, Mrs Ann Coulter. To me what is currently happening in America makes me love this country. And also of course this video in which I see an honourable republican being proud of his country for a very good reason !

It is so wonderful. I might sound like a ridiculous unconditional America lover but no, you have to know that only a few years ago I was namely hating this country because of GW Bush and even because of you, Ann ! You guys used to scare me like hell, really. I had the feeling that global trouble would soon get dangerous for my own family because of you American guys. You know hos stupid we are in Europe ! :-)

The contrast is amazing with today. I see now on the right this principled and pragmatic republican candidate and, on the left, a candidate that represents to me so much hope and joy that I am almost crying love tears for America writing this.

I hate what you write but I sincerely think you are very talented with what you do. You seem a little bit desperated those days but I have no doubt you have a lot of ressources.

    Greetings from Brussels

    David

  4. OneAmericanCitizen

Interesting… I still think McCain should consider Hillary for the VP slot to move his ticket to the right…

A vote for Mac the Knife is a vote to destroy Reaganism. It is more vital he be defeated than Hussein be defeated, as screwy as that sounds. McShame’s Socialism Lite is actually the greater long term danger to the Republic and the death of Reagan Conservatism. See my blog on Town Hall (The Big Mick) for several cogent reasons.
I am currently researching the rules on Write Ins in VA.
“None of the above” would be my preferred vote. Make them all go back and do it over and give us somebody who ISN’T a disaster for the Republic.
If this is the Worst Congress in History, why are we even CONSIDERING promoting one of them to the Presidency?

You need to up the martini count on that one… that was just horrifically painful to watch… Did Johnny Mac have a stroke and forget that he’s running AGAINST Obama and was not the deligated B. Hussein Obama azz kisser for today.

    Re: David from Brussels,
    1. Its MS. Ann Coulter…not MRS..
    2. John McCain is NOT a republican (he just plays one on t.v.–and not very well at that either)
    3. Seeing Obama as a candidate with hope & joy—-maybe it’s the view from Brussels that allows you to see that. Kinda like those painting that far away seem so beautiful but when you get up close it’s just a sloppy mess that makes no sense.

  7. The Big Mick

    Dear Dave the Belggie,
Thanks for reminding us just how smart the Euro leavings are, and why our ancestors got the hell out and came to America as fast as possible. And why everybody is committing Felonies to get in here now. Thanks for reminding us that both our candidates are Quislings committed to aiding the Reconquista Invasion of our Southern Border, and that Hussein feels it’s the responsibility of the Citizens of Greatest Country and Only Superpower in the World to learn Mexican and European rather than the reverse. Thanks for reminding us that both candidates seem to want to suck Euro asz rather than tell the World to Get the Hell out of the Way or get BLOWN the Hell out of the Way. In case you missed it, Americans KNOW how deeply in Sodem’s POCKET ALL the Euros and UN were. You have proven again and again through history that you are cowardly, stupid, corrupt, and can’t be trusted.
We’ve got a bunch of Sandnazis trying to kill us because we let OUR women wear Daisy Dukes, drink Jack Daniels and boogaloo to Elvis. You want to help us kill them, good on you, if you don’t, I repeat, get the Hell out of Our way, or be BLOWN out of our way. A hearty American screw you aszhole, from the only Country worth living in on the planet and the only people worth a crap with the possible exceptions of the Aussies and the Brits.

Finally, a way I can tolerate voting for McCain.

Do you think Obama might tap McCain as the Democratic VP?

  9. Josh

Shame, shame shame! I don’t know what that thing with the salt chunks and blue liquid is but is isn’t a martini. Martinis are made with gin, an olive and opinionally a small quantity of dry vermouth. You have diminished your conservative credentials.

  10. kevin

Dave from Brussels, I’m glad you can’t vote.

  11. Robert Mc Cabe

As a Conservative in California (the land of Fruits and Nuts) I have decided since all polls show McCain has no chance of winning the CA electoral vote I will be casting my ballot for Bob Barr as a protest and have encouraged many of my friends to do the same. I hope that the Barr takes a larger share of the popular vote in Ca than McCain so hopefully the GOP leadership will pull their collective heads out of John Mc Cains rectum and realize that we conservatives are furious over there leadership. Now if the polls change and it looks like McCain has a chance to actually win CA. I will vote for him ONLY because he is just slightly better than the alternative. Of course if I do cast my ballot for McCain I plan to have a clothespin on my nose to deaden the bad taste in my mouth…………

  12. sandy

LOL!!! Three martinis! LOL!! If I even had one I’d be dancing on the table (as opposed to on a lap like a liberal!) You are SO funny. Love your comments and column.

If Mc names Romney as vp, gets elected. and then something non-tragic happens where Mc can’t be POTUS, this could all work out, no?

  13. Simon

Simon says: Liberals are dangerously insane (devotion to ignorance with an unquenchable thirst to topple the best the world offers: USA, freedom, innovation, etc.). Sadly, McCain is one.

Unfortunately, liberals’ unquenchable thirst appears to be on the verge of being quenched - where are the conservative leaders who can articulate [and sell] our ideas? Ann has the intellect and the ideas, but is too widely (albeit unfairly) condemned. Disturbingly, the only way to get a liberal to listen to anything you have to say is to pretend to be a liberal in order to win liberals’ trust and confidence - any popular [even remotely] conservative is automatically hated and condemned by the Left.

  14. Bradley

Outside of Dave from Belgium, you clowns are the largest array of dunces I’ve ever encountered in my life!

  15. Miss

My soul. It all hurts my soul.

National Review has a post up on the Corner about what McCain told the NAACP about his plans for education. Pro-school choice, relaxing the certification rules for qualifying to be a teacher. I can identify especially with the second one.
I attempted to go through the certification process in Colorado at a Denver college. Too many damn hoops to jump through. I found it easier to get a B.S. in meteorology with a math minor. And the crap you have to put with….oh boy!
One professor advocated a dismantling of the letter grading system in favor of something far more abstract (letter grading discriminated against minorities and children with “special talents”). When I brought this topic up to a middle school teacher I was following around, she said, “Let the colleges try it first.” It then occured to me that between that and the screaming liberal bias overall made the program a bunch of BS.
Anywho, if McCain can bang away on this topic, I may not need to have a .25 BAC to vote for him!
Obama is in the hip pocket of the teachers unions.

  17. Kerstile

admin, since this site is identical is format and tone to S&L, I assume that this is an experiment or demonstration of the “open” blog. I can see you now rolling on the floor in uncontrolled spasms of laughter or just simply nodding your head and smiling when you review the vapid comments from the simple-minded here. So, I thank you. I need to expose myself to these libtards to remind me why I am a conservative. I tried going to kos for that, but I start retching after about 2 minutes.

On topic: McCain does not really want to win. His losing to Obama will be his last great service to the USA. An Obama presidency will guarantee 20+ years of republican (hopefully conservative not RINO) domination of government from 2012 on. Unfortunately, we will all have to suffer 4 years of Obama, then 2-3 years more suffering as conservatives work to undo the damage if that will even be possible. By that time there will be a nuclear armed Iran, unless Israel acts.

  18. jimmy_neutron

    Which one are you?

Today’s Republican Party is quite diverse
And spans all walks of life.
So grab a chair and sit right down,
As we break them down into ten basic types.

If you ask Mr. Money Bags about the meaning of life
    He’ll say “Ain’t a damn thing funny”
Because the only thing that’s important to him is
“Where’s the money? Where’s the money? Gimme the money.”

    This millionaire cum billionaire
Who favors low low tax rates
Wants to keep his wealth all to himself
Not support public programs he hates.

“To hell with the lower classes”, he says
“Those people are all worthless cogs!”
“I need to buy mink-fur-lined toilet seats”
And diamond jewelry for all of my dogs!”

He also hates the inheritance tax
    “This policy I oppose!”
Because his spoiled daughter needs every last cent
To snort it all up her nose.

    Mr. Chicken-hawk’s idea of diplomacy
Is yelling “Let’s solve everything with war!”
Just as long as his kids aren’t in the army you see
And it’s made up of the brown and the poor.

He thinks he’s a military genius, too
Smarter than Sun Tzu and ol’ Colin Powell
Even though his only military training’s from
Watching “Red Dawn” staring C. Thomas Howell

Mr. Bible-ton is a born again Christian
Just like his best buddy the prez
And they’re both devout believers in Christ
Only…Not so much in what he says
Jesus’ words of helping the poor and needy
Are all right there in the Bible
But if you ask if he believes it’s true he’ll say
“Um… I believe that might be a typo”

They care not ’bout Aids in Africa
Or spreading love in the world today.
What issue are they most concerned about?
“Makin’ sure the TV don’t turn us gay”

    And here’s Mr. Contrarian
He hates liberal causes and cases
If you say Global Warming melts the polar ice caps
They’ll say “No it isn’t” til they’re blue in the faces

He’s often on Yahoo news message boards
Typing in all caps and in the dark
Or perhaps you’ll find him in Hollywood
    trying to make his mark

Mr. NRA likes guns more than people
That’s why (boom boom boom boom)
And he (boom boom boom boom boom)
    (boom boom boom boom boom)
…Even though most Americans support gun control
    and banning cop-killer bullets.

In business school Mr. Frat learned that
Corporate group-think is always quite right.
Which explains why he’s such a super fan
Of Dane Cook, Fox News and Coors Light

    He hates affirmative action, though
For he feels it’s a government gyp
“People should have get their own damn jobs in the world”
Like he did at his dad’s hot tub dealership.

If forced to pick a political slogan, though
And choose a motto that fits
Mr. Frat would think for a moment and say
either “Woo-hoo!” or “Show us your tits!”

Mr. Log Cabin likes spending his time and money
    Helping Republicans campaign to win
Even though most of the folks he’s voting for
Think his existence is a mortal sin.
And why is he such a staunch supporter
Of a party that so hates his guts?
“Because achieving equal rights is less important
Than getting upper bracket tax cuts.”

Then again, he may be a genius so
Let’s take all of our criticism back.
For he knows if Republicans remain in charge
Gay soldiers can’t be sent to Iraq.

Mr. Numbnuts is a hard working fellow
And though he ranks among the working poor
He consistently votes for a party that boasts
Of killing free health care on the Congressional floor

But is he angry with these rich old men
Who say they’ll never raise his minimum wage?
Well, not while there’s plenty of beer and wrestling
To channel all his misplaced rage.

The original minutemen risked their lives
Defending us from English imperial power
What are today’s minutemen defending us from?
Busboys making three bucks an hour.

    Some say they’re dedicated patriots
And others, an over zealous mob
Irregardless someday it’ll be more cost effective
To hire an illegal to do their job.

And last is an Eisenhower Republican
He’s a fan of fiscal restraint
He’s also cautious with military intervention
He knows what’s a war and what ain’t.

He’s a thoughtful, decent, honest man
Who thinks that in order to win
You must be a moderate who unites all people
And…Whu-oh, looks like there’s no room for him.

Yes, the Republican party’s an intriguing quilt
    of politics, personalities and…(rat-a-tat-tat-tat!)
All housed together under one giant insane circus tent.

im an eisenhower repub. good old ike!

  19. David

Thank you very much for the nice answers to my message and specially to “big mick” : you made my day ! folks here were so much laughing for at least 10 minutes, really ! I love America :-)

  20. jimmy_neutron

big mick, you are retarded if you think the world needs to “get out of our way, or get BLOWN out of the way”. The United States can’t take on the entire world. Ever heard of alliances? we need them. If we attacked even such a small country such as belgium, it would be the end of us, due to their alliances, and the combined might of europe, not to mention russia.
we cant solve all of our problems with missiles, you idiotic war-hawk. i know that your brain has a hard time grasping any kind of comprehensive, complex answers to our difficulties, but really…

  21. XCritonX

Right now I am living in Europe so I can see the EU perspective. We must never forget that Europe and the United States of America are in competition. Competition for power, resources, wealth, and international influence. The EU has dreams of being a superpower, if they can organize themselves first. Since they cant seem to make a positive competition they are resorting to tearing down their allies.

The EU politicians are scared of the US. Yes scared, they see the riches, the power and the freedom and they fear it. They fear it because maybe the people of the police state of Europe will decide they also want these freedoms. The last election in Italy was the first in 60 years with no wins for the commies, socialists, and lefties. It was a right conservative sweep. Italy is one of the most politically divided countries in the world yet the left united them in voting right! Socialism and other over done governments simply employ too many people. There is a lot of pressure from the ruling classes to keep the status quo.

Many people in the EU are jealous of the US. We all know how jealously makes hatred out of love. They snicker at the US energy consumption and then say they wish they could afford to drive a hummer too. They joke with american law enforcement and then complain why their police have to drive scooters and US police get to have V8 cruisers. They complain about US capitalism and then dream about moving to the US and getting rich. They say that the US spends to much on the military, then they want to be bailed out every time they cause a world war.

From a EU perspective (not my own thoughts):
The US should raise taxes = and weaken their economy like ours, then we can compete evenly
The US should cut back on pollution = that will kill their economy for sure, then we wont have to compete
The US should elect Obama = that wont just ruin the economy, that will screw everything
The US should participate in peacekeeping in Darfur = Somalia repeated
The US should pull out of Iraqi = dam their winning! And we thought all the weapons we gave Sadam would be a better investment.

  22. jimmy_neutron

Thats not only the EU perspective, but the world consensus…

most Europeans are not ‘jealous’ of america. in fact, the europeans i have talked to while over here in europe (i am living in the czech republic) are glad they don’t live in america, where they would be bankrupted by any medical concerns, imprisoned for simple drug possession, etc.
Their desire for us to lower energy consumption is a basic desire for oil to be cheaper. if demand goes down so does cost. you over simplify the matter with your claims of ‘jealousy’.

also isn’t one Euro worth nearly two dollars now?
    why would they be jealous?

  23. Kraut the German

I agree with everything Big Mick said! I just hope Big Mick prepare a little better for the Russian winter than my previous idol did :(

XCritonX: “The last election in Italy was the first in 60 years with no wins for the commies, socialists, and lefties. ”

Oh the good old days of Mussolini 60 years ago :) How did Berlusconi manage be to prime minister 2 times before if the lefties have won every election the last 60 years?

  26. David

Where do you live in Europe XCritonX ?

//”The US should raise taxes = and weaken their economy like ours, then we can compete evenly”//

Well that is pure POV on economics, it just depends on what economic theory “believe” in. But on the background, be sure the EU economy has nothing to gain with a weak US economy, to the contrary, when the US economy is going well the EU benefits from it.

“The US should cut back on pollution = that will kill their economy for sure, then we wont have to compete”

The EU has the most coercive regulation in the world over environment. It did not kill our economy, tough some think it doesn’t help. But here in Europe there is a broad majority in favour of environment laws, so we deal with it. Anyhow, anything Obama or McCain will do on this issue will be best that Bush, who didn’t do anything. Whatever the elections’ result is, regarding both candidates’ programmes, the US will part of the post-Kyoto global policy, not against it, that’s a fact.

//”The US should elect Obama = that wont just ruin the economy, that will screw everything”//

Again, even if McCain is elected (which I hope not) I’m sure he will be far better than Bush. To my opinion McCain is a respectable conservative, unlike Bush and his gang of idealist nutjobs. So the only ones to be politically “screwed” with this election, already for now, are the American boneheaded right-wingers like you. And yes, I confess that makes me happy.

//”The US should participate in peacekeeping in Darfur = Somalia repeated” - The US should pull out of Iraqi = dam their winning! And we thought all the weapons we gave Sadam would be a better investment. //

In Darfur or elsewhere, big and rich countries like the EU “big five” and the US should participate in making the world a safer place using for that purpose the UN institutions. That is only my own position. Indeed there cannot be any EU position over this issue as the EU has no foreign policy - ask France, Denmark and Poland about this and you’ll get three different positions. So I really wonder if you actually know the basics of what you talk about.

So when it comes to Iraq the EU as such has not any position either. Apparently you are persuaded that the US army is “winning” over there. Well the least one can say is that we have seen clearer victories than this one. And here again, McCain himself said that if he’s elected he would pull out asap, so it is only a matter of time and method but there is no doubt that the next American president will do his best to put an end to the so-called “war against terror” which in fact has jeopardized America’s leading position around the world.

According to what we currently see, only a minority of Americans still think their country should stick to a unilateral approach. This is what makes you so sad and angry and that is why you need a good drink. Well just go ahead and drink, you will get at least 4 years hangover. Cheers !

You know what is being anti-american in Europe ? It is to think that a majority of Americans are like you. What is going on now on the other side of the Atlantic shows not only that it is not the case but also that US are definitely a great democracy. It is the American people and not anyone else that are now kicking out of office the worse administration they ever had. This is real democracy, and you are right, it makes me feel like going there and enjoy this fascinating free world.

    So see you soon.

    David

  27. Reggie Hargett

Thomas Sowell recently remarked that only Obama or HIllary could convince him to vote for McCain. McCain is trying his best to make even that an impossibility.

  28. Kendrick

Why Lord are punishing we conservatives? Must we endure four years of Obama to learn our lesson of how to govern while in the majority? Lord, please give Senator McCain laryngitis before he puts his other foot in his mouth and writes Obama a campaign contribution. Here we are in a
Carter II and Dole II race. Obama has barely found the restrooms in the Senate. A simple question is, “What has Obama done in his life?” Absolutely nothing. Remember that bright stars burn out quickly. Now where is that bottle? It is going to be a long drunk before I can vote for McCain.

I have come up with the perfect two presidential tickets for both parties for the 2008 election.

    Republican Ticket Democratic Ticket

Pres. John McCain Pres. Barrack Obama
V.P. Barrack Obama V.P. John McCain

They are both liberals. They agree on virtually everything.
It wouldn’t be a debate. It would be a consensus.

I think these tickets make perfect sense.

Hey Jimmy Neutron - you sir are not very smart. Please refrain from your long diatribes sir. Envy has been, and always will be, the source of any large egalitarian movement in both America and worldwide. Liberty means equality of opportunity, not of outcome.

  33. Danny Vice

McCain has some pretty horrible advisers I think, but I see what they are going for. They are trying to build credibility by not tearing down the opponent - but this strategy is what lost republicans control over congress.

Although McCain leans further left than I would personally like, I believe that he’ll provide better wisdom on war issues than we’ve had during the previous 7 years.

The worst of Iraq may appear to be behind us, but that’s misleading I think..

I think it’s going to get more complex as we balance troop withdrawal while keeping a hammer held over Iran’s head. We absolutely cannot just vacate the entire area.

I disagree with McCain on a great many things, however foreign policy prowess is going to be absolutely critical over the next 4 years in comparison to everything else. IMHO.

I think foreign policy will consume most of the next president’s term, regardless of who is in the White House. And for that, nothing matters more to me than foreign policy capability.

  34. Grumpy

Spot on, Danny. The economy, health care, etc. are all important, but no where near national security.

If Obamanator wins, I fear we will lose a few more tall buildings. Perhaps due to mushroom poisoning.

Paranoid, of course, but far safer than rose-colored glasses tree-hugging socialism. Particularly the kind that thinks that we can sweet talk those-who-have-sworn-to-kill-every-one-of-us to play nice.

InBev just bought Budweiser. Borrowed $45 billion to do it. So much for Clydesdales and Superbowl commercials.

U.S. is going down big time. You have an economic and an energy crisis, prices of food are going up, your bank system is dying. Obama or Mc Cain. Nothing will change anything. Destiny is written

  37. BIKINIS 4 BABIES

McCain is such a wimp politically that he may as well order one of our bikinis and wear it around on the campaign trail.

If he did I would at least take him more seriously then I would hearing him speak at some NAACP panderfest.

  38. Deb N.

NAACP, hmph. I bet they called him a cracker when he left! But that’s OK. I prefer Margeritas, thank you. And I still am not voting for McCain. I’m not in a coma yet. Then, I may consider it.

  39. dollymadison

Can’t we all just get along?

  40. JB

So McCain endorses Barack Obama. I forget who Ann Coulter has endorsed?? Not McCain right? Then it must be the next president of the USA: Bob Barr?

  41. Waldo

This website is a sad litany to what has gone wrong with my party, the GOP. Once the party of Lincoln, that freed our nation of slavery and offered vision, direction, and hope, has now become the party of di-vision, mis-direction, and hatred of anything that is not of itself. I am deeply saddened by the destruction of this once great institution that is now infested by small minded people such as Ann Coulter, who are instrumental in ruining the reputation of conservatism.

Outside of the rare individuals such as McCain and Romney, the remnants of the GOP have no tolerance and no love for those with a different opinion, a different color of skin, or a different lifestyle. Today, the spokespeople of conservatism spend too much time telling us how stupid and evil liberals are, or trying to change our great constitution to impose their version of morality upon our society, or enourage our government to spend ourselves into bankruptcy. It’s time for us to rise up from this delusion that the Neocon Party is on the right track. It is not.

I am ashamed to call myself a Republican, since this party no longer is even close to its original roots of the promotion of fiscal conservatism and less government.

I wish John McCain the best of luck in winning the presidency even though he has already given into much of the insanity of Neoconservatism but I also believe that even Obama would be a Godsend compared to what history will prove is the damage done that the Neocon Party has brought us. Even George H.W. Bush is ashamed of the mess that his son has left behind. It’s time to bring back sanity to our party and the world.

Grow some “nads” people and throw out these idiots and stop listening to people like Ann Coulter.

  42. dollymadison

    Ann Coulter for VP!

  43. Attom

As a lifetime democrat I say kudo’s to Waldo. I have no problem debating our approaches or philosophies with a Republican representing actual Republican perspectives, that is healthy and valuable. The problem these days is all too many (most) wearing the the Republican banners have no interest in anything not endorsed by Colter, Rush, Hannity and few other neocons that have litterally kidnapped the Grand Old Party, wrapped themselves in the flag and call anyone that disagrees with them unamerican. Sad.

  44. William

Somewhere I saw a suggestion for a march on Washington to tell them to DRILL. Best idea I’ve seen so far. The only way I can see Mc. Cain as president is for him to take Lieberman as a running mate. That ought to complete the Democratic ticket. How could we ever be divided again; heck, no one could blame the Republicans for anything, either way.

  45. dollymadison

I think we should just get longer drills and drill til we get underneath the Middle East, then suck’em dry!

  46. Gibbsy

Is there no longer anything that even looks like debate in this country? We have bloggers who call each other names all day, talking heads doing the same on TV and politicians leading the way. They all seem to have one standard way of refuting a point made by the opposition…. Call them names and scream. It goes for both sides. The Lincoln Douglas style debate is most certainly dead.

I am conservative, however I gave up participation in the political process while serving in Iraq. You see every once in a while Id get a chance to sit down and watch some TV. I realized that even those who support the war were completely off base. Not to mention that my fellow Americans waited their statutory 30 seconds after the war began before allowing it to tear them apart.

Allow me to hit you all with a few pieces of “grunt wisdom”: Take it or leave it.

    1. Drilling and an aggressive search for new technologies are both required NOW. Quite simply you are both right.

    2. Allowing yourself to be a good decent human being by not acting as if your political opponent is Satan Incarnate actually endears a good deal of people to YOU.

    3. Anyone on any side of any issue pretending they are always right is an idiot. Admit when the opponent scores point and has good ideas. Be civilized people.

    4. Unless you have a Ph.D in the topic be open to a bit of give and take huh? Unless you are General Petraeus and literally wrote FM21-20 “Field Manual for Counter-Insurgency Operations” and are now being told by some knob reporter how to fight a war…. Don’t get so mad. Listen, analyze, refute. Thats how you debate.

One last thing if anyone actually reads this whole thing. To all of you who jumped all over David the Belgian, can you shut the hell up? When was the last time you traveled outside of this country? When did you last do it wearing a US Army uniform and an American Flag on your right shoulder? Have you any idea how difficult snarkey little foolish comments like the ones thrown back at David for his opinions are making it for your fellow Americans to walk a foreign street? I’m in charge of a number of young soldiers and I always tell them one thing over and over and over and that is what I will leave you with…

You represent this nation when talking to anyone. Don’t make an A_ _ of yourself. It reflects on all of us.

  47. P.O.W.G.

All this nonsense makes me realize buying a big gun makes good sense!

  48. at the copa...copacobana

    well said gibbsy, well said.

  49. at the copa...copacobana

what does anybody think about al-maliki’s endorsement of obama’s plan to withdraw from iraq in 16 months? i think that’s pretty big news for this election.

  50. David

Wow, that was a very good thread, with contrasted views !

I am sure it is because of the content of the first post, this McCain quote about Obama is simply remarkable :

//”He has inspired a great many Americans, some of whom had wrongly believed that a political campaign could hold no purpose or meaning for them. His success should make Americans, all Americans, proud. Of course, I would prefer his success not continue quite as long as he hopes. But it makes me proud to know the country I’ve loved and served all my life is still a work in progress, and always improving. Senator Obama talks about making history, and he’s made quite a bit of it already.”//

It is absolutely not a “gaffe”, he prepared this sentence. And the american media don’t make a big deal with it, so his remark appears as totally normal.

You guys can be so proud. You make the world History not only as a powerfull country but also as an avant-garde.

And well, the fact that few of you are so desperated with this current prospect that they would get often drunk to forget it is just an anecdote…

    bye

    D

  51. dollymadison

David, You seem like a nice man, and your country seems nice too. Did you know that your waffles are very popular over here? I think you’ve misjudged Ann Coulter, though. Underneath it all she has a heart as golden as her hair. If you happen to meet her when you come to America, I won’t be surprised to read in the headlines: Ann Coulter to wed the Very Nice Belgian Man, David

  52. Bug-Killer

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki

I think Nuri’s half-assed endorsement of Obamer reflects his gutless instincts.
If you were him, would you want to see the Americans elect, as your new boss, McCain or Obamer?

  53. JRiley

Beside what Coulter stands for, I don’t understand why conservatives worship this woman. She reminds me of the Crypt Keeper.

  54. dollymadison

JRiley, That’s mean. Ann Coulter is worshiped for her wit, which, like her golden hair, is bountiful and flowing. I suspect you have a hidden Ann crush, and you’re just trying to cover, kind of like the “Girls have cooties” thing.

  55. ELSwanko

Cheers to you Gibbsy. Appreciate the job, and the nuts to do it!.

  56. dollymadison

    Gibbsy rocks!

  57. The Surge

    There are only two liberals
    and this much is true;
    There’s ultra-rich socialists
    and aspiring snobs too.

If you wish to be thought
    by media elites erudite,
Just love a tree more than a fetus,
they won’t know you’re none too bright.

    The first type of liberal
    is the power-hungry rich
Who exists on the back of
    the poor unsuspecting son-of-a-b*tch.

    They maintain their vast power
    giving table scraps to blue-collars;
    Fiddling while Rome burns
    and keeping warm burning dollars.

“Raise our taxes, we don’t mind”!
When they say that to clods
You can be sure what their saying is,
“I have more money than God”.

    Mr. Sensitive Rich Liberal
    wants permanent underclasses
Of dark-skinned folks who are poor
    But always vote for jack-asses.

    And so, to that end,
Instead of teaching them to fish,
    They keep signing welfare checks
For as long as they wish.

    Mr. Sensitive and Rich knows
    that conservative favor freedom,
So in Orwellian fashion has the media
lead the masses where ever he may need ‘em.

    A behemoth propaganda machine–
    NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC
Will try to convince you to hate your possessions
    But love a damn tree.

    “Santa’s home is melting!
    The polar bears are dying!
    So redistribute your wealth
or we’ll soon all be frying!

    “All peoples are equal,
    except in job-hunting and school;
    Then best not be white,
    is our liberal rule.

    “Even though everyone has
A right to buy health care,
    We’ll go the extra mile–
Rob the productive to pay your share.

    “That’s right! And by rich
    may I be clear,
    If you own a toaster
    high taxes you must fear.

    “Bush is a dummy!
He couldn’t find Swaziland in a quiz,
Even though Slick Willy claimed not to know
What the mean of ‘is’ is.”

    Mr. Sensitive and Rich
    a cogent argument cannot find,
So he falls back on epithets
    when left in a bind.

    “Halliburton! Halliburton!
    Arms for hostages too!
    I keep repeating it shrilly
so you know that it’s true.”

    And besides Mr. Rich,
    though not as well known,
    The second type of liberal
is an unfortunate, but poor, clone.

They work too hard to do research
    and so are taken in,
When told that socialist programs are good
    and capitalism a sin.

    They work hard in factories,
    in schools, and in stores,
But don’t know their labor leaders are shills
    for Democratic whores.

    So let’s just be clear
on a few issues of import,
Mr. “Funny Little Rhyme on a
    Discussion Board”:

It is the party of Reagan
    that in equality believes.
    Affirmative action is racism,
    no matter what you perceive.

At least Bush didn’t turn down
    Al Qaida’s number one.
    Slick Willy is to blame
    for 9-11, and then some.

To say that Americans favor gun control,
    my lying little friend,
Is to say that the wolf is favored
to guard the chicken yard by the hen.

    Cop killing bullets!
    That’s always the ruse
    By anti-gun nuts in
    states that vote blue.

    Minutemen are still defending,
    Like me, in Iraq,
    Let’s get that straight now
    You sorry little sack.

    If Eisenhower were alive,
    be sure he would spit
    In your ignorant face
    Jimmy Neutron, you twit.

So before you try to make up clever rhymes,
and come messing with the party of Lincoln,
Best to be forming more cogent arguments,
and to do some deep thinking.

You have been officially served by the Surge!

  58. The Surge

Oh, and just simple lesson in economics: The Euro is stronger than the dollar, and has been basically since its inception, primarily because there is a multitude of economies behind it. I can assure anyone here that if there were to be an “Amero”, some sort of common currency shared with Canada and Mexico, it would be vastly more powerful than the Euro. The Euro is not stronger because it is manifestly superior; it is stronger because several of the world’s most powerful economies use it, as opposed to the American dollar, which has only the world’s richest single nation behind it. And yes, I would say that, given the recent election results in France and Germany and their move to center-right, their petrol problems and the rising crisis in European nations over the massive and crippling costs being incurred on account of their idiotic “universal health care” programs, they probably are a bit jealous of us. I don’t know how a person who purports to follow the wisdom of Eisenhower, one of our greatest patriots and one of the greatest minds to inhabit the White House, could sound so virulently anti-American in his vainglorious fulminations on a damn conservative blog. If you wonder, by the way, why people type messages with an excessive use of the ‘CAPS’ key, it is because there is no way on most discussion boards to italicize text. I would think someone who managed to rhyme the unlikely coupling of “gyp” and “dealership” would be able to deduce such a simple explanation; it seems I was wrong.

  59. Grumpy

The dollar is low because we buy far more than we sell.
Interest rates are low as well.
The Eurocrats are mad, because their goods here won’t sell.
If our economy tanks, their’s soon follows suit.
Without our $30+ billion subsidy (we call it NATO), they’d crash first.
If the Russians don’t come to ‘visit’ before.

A bunch of damnfools we are.
