McCain Isn’t Sure Obama Is A Socialist?
From the Kansas City Star and the DNC’s CNN:
McCain: ‘I don’t know’ if Obama is socialist
July 18, 2008
From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
WARREN, Michigan (CNN) – John McCain on Thursday described Barack Obama’s Senate record as “more to the left” than Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont — an independent who caucuses with Democrats but has described himself as an “independent Democratic socialist.”
During his town hall meeting with voters in Kansas City yesterday, McCain said, “Senator Obama has the most extreme record of any member of the United States Senate.”
In an interview after the event, The Kansas City Star asked him to clarify the remark.
“His voting record … is more to the left than the announced socialist in the United States Senate, Bernie Sanders of Vermont,” McCain answered, according the paper.
Asked if he thought Obama was a socialist, McCain answered: “I don’t know. All I know is his voting record, and that’s what people usually judge their elected representatives by.”
We are of two minds about this.
It is of course all to the good that McCain brought up Barack Hussein Obama’s ultra-liberal voting record.
But why wouldn’t he go the distance and actually call him a socialist? After all, that is the God’s honest truth by any definition of the term.
And of course the media will run with the headline that makes it sound like McCain doesn’t think Obama is a socialist.
Still, generally speaking, this is a step in the right direction.

Because understatement in context allows the listener to make the jump himself, thus allowing the listener to form the opinion of their own volition, rather than receiving it from the speaker? This is why the Socratic method is effective - working out the logic of a connection on your own means that you’re more likely to retain it & remember it down the line.

lesseroftwoweevils,
He’s right. In any case, the case for BHO as socialist needs to be built to (partly by suggestion). That way it will be more effective.
I don’t believe it yet, but it just might work. If McCain would pull a little more right and talk drilling instead of the earth worship/global warming cult.
Team McSprain, you will not out left the Messiah. How about mobilizing your base?

Bob Dole repeatedly hammered Clinton as a Liberal. That didn’t work very well.
Of course BO is a Socialist. And it looks so good on paper. The Government will take care of you.
A fellow posted on a leftwingnut site that when Os(b)ama became president, this fellow would quit his job, get free healthcare and spend his life drinking beer. He was trying to be as sarcastic as possible. Of the 18 replies, 16 thought it was a great idea.
I know a lot of people that want socialism. Until they actually get it. Of course, when it flops, they will just blame it on Bush. P.T. Barnum would understand.

TWO MAIN PROBLEMS WITH THIS:
1) What percentage of Americans actually know what a socialist is? Is it 10%? As high as 15%? Pushing 20%?
2) There is a HUGE MASS of Americans that want socialism - as long as the money the government steals from us through taxes goes towards them to pay for their lifestyle.

Juan McAmnesty only cares about A) what liberal Democrats in congress think of him and B) what the liberal press in DC think of him. After getting slaughtered in the election he can go back to Washington having run a “valiant” campaign in the eyes of liberal Washington and all will be well with his world and screw us…

No, McCain, YOU are the socialist.

Obama is a socialist and a zig-zag man.
The guy can’t take a stand on any issue, and when he finally gets the courage to do so, he retracts it shortly thereafter and says he was misquoted.
What a joke.
Check out this grassroots effort I ran across out of WA state (blue state ‘mind you) http://www.ZigZagManShirt.com Go to the story and see how this independent is trying to change the vocabulary we use about this guy we know as Obama.
