McCain Vows To Subsidize Electric Cars
From the Washington Post:
Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-AZ) (2nd R) listens to General Motors Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner (R), Vice Chairman Bob Lutz and Vice President of Environment and Energy Beth Lowery about the Chevy Volt concept electric car at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan July 18, 2008.
McCain Talks with GM workers
By Juliet Eilperin
WARREN, Mich.–Speaking to a group of General Motors Corp. employees, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) promised to provide a $5,000 tax credit for Americans who buy electric-powered cars such as the future Chevy Volt and “other automobiles that put us on the path to energy independence,” even as he suggested he might alter his climate plan to aid the auto industry…
One employee asked if “the science of man-made global warming has really been proven,” and added that if the government established a carbon cap “how can that possibly help a great company like General Motors?” McCain said he believes the U.S. has to act more aggressively to curb global warming pollution.
The senator said that he believes “there is sufficient evidence to take action” even if not every scientist agrees humans are causing climate change. “That’s the preponderance of scientific evidence, it’s not the unanimity of scientific evidence.”
But after the questioner continued to complain about how a cap-and-trade system would harm GM, McCain answered he could “make accommodations” on that front.
“I think we’ve got to adjust those standards so it doesn’t kill off the industry,” he said…
How kind of Mr. McCain not to let his bizarre belief in the global warming cult destroy the automobile industry completely.
But now that he has promised government subsidies for buying cars and paying mortgages, what’s next?
Subsidies for flat panel TVs? Don’t laugh. They save energy, too!
We guess the answer lies in whatever special interest group McCain is addressing next.
Can we get a federal subsidy for martinis?

Great. Tax credits. And who will “pay” for these credits? This also ass-umes most of us can afford these gems in the first place.

Profit is the mother of invention, competition, best products, best service and best prices. If a government interferes in ANY way, your will lose all five of these things. (Feel free to quote me and watch the Liberals go “HUH?”)
It amazes me that these idiots think inventions can be mandated or subsidized, and appear out of thin air! ANY product/invention must be analyzed COMPLETELY and VERIFIED as profitable, otherwise a detrimental effect will occur SOMEWHERE in that nation’s economy.
We have the dumbest of the college graduates running the country, AND they telling the smartest people (Engineers, soon Doctors) what to do and how to do it. DOOM!

London tried a subsidizing scheme of sorts with electric cars and they had to stop it, leaving the car owners stuck with paying thousands in fees that they had thought they could avoid. If McCain follows through with this plan as President and the auto manufacturers tool up based upon artificial Government subsidies, we’ll have created another giant black hole for untold billions to be sucked into (ooops…sorry I forgot that “black hole” is a ‘racist’ expression)
From the UK Evening Standard:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/.....article.do
“Free parking for electric cars axed - for being too successful”
Since 2001, the City of London has issued free roadside parking passes to nearly 500 drivers of the zero-emission cars in a bid to encourage other people to buy one. It has also handed out 539 permits for free parking in its car parks.
But both schemes are being axed or scaled down, because commuters are adding to congestion by using the cars instead of walking, cycling or travelling by public transport.

But flat panel TVs are now said to be causing global warming…at least the manufacturing of them. See:

Electric cars just transfer the problem to someone else. We still have to produce energy. And the notion that we have plenty of excess power at night, for charging batteries, face plants when you get a bunch of e-cars plugged in at night.
The science behind “Global Warming” crumbles a bit more each day. Not surprising, as most of it was fabricated in the first place. http://www.junkscience.com does a pretty good job of hammering this into the ground, as do many other sites.
When government implements policy based on bad science and rhetoric, the outcome is disaster.
I’m not sure if this is a few Martinis or several bottles of Maalox.

Grumpy, you’ve got it right, of course. But we all know, it’s never about truth, right, wrong or even morals.
It’s all about the lemmings! Round up the lemmings, drive ‘em this way and that way. Because the lemmings have the money (aka the tax dollars).

I guess it’s always about money. And power, control, ego.
The problem with voting for the lesser of evil is you still get evil.
We need another RR. I don’t see one. Martini, please.

Here’s an idea for Washington, instead of spending billions on aid to Africa and all parts unknown .. give us all one of those fancy plug-in cars and we can all save the world from Global Warming. What good is aid to Africa when we are killing all the Africans with our gas powered cars .. If these cars are the “answer” to all the worlds problems we don’t need a tax credit just give us all a car! Cheers.

Give us free martini’s. Don’ t bother shaking or stirring, I can look at my national leadership and my trembling for my country will do both.

Will the tax “credit” extend to my losses when the dealer who trades my SUV for a new we-have-no-battery-because-toyota-wont-switch-to-lithium-ion-technology electric tuna can POS for 60% less than what its worth? will our wonderful, well managed government (I’m being sarcastic here) recover the tax credit when the dealer dumps my SUV (as well as the other XXXmillion) to another country where it will generate the same pollution? who’s running this country? seems like the martinis have been all consumed by the “leaders” and not us… And Obama will give everyone a rainbow, a wad of cash and a nice puupy. I should have started on the alcohol path a long time ago… that’s right! its fuel now!

Does he think he can wave a magic wand and BAM- an electric car will appear out of nowhere? Sometimes I wonder if McCain is not quite right in the head, no offense.
