Two-Thirds Of US Hispanics Back Obama

From the open borders lobby at Reuters:

Two-thirds of Hispanics back Obama: study

Thu Jul 24, 2008

By Tim Gaynor

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Two-thirds of U.S. Hispanic voters support Democrat Barack Obama for president over Republican John McCain and the partisan gap among the United States’ fastest growing voter bloc is broader than at any point this decade, a study found.

The nationwide telephone survey by the Pew Hispanic Center released on Thursday said 66 percent of a sample of 2,015 registered Latino voters polled said they backed Obama, with 23 percent supporting McCain, a senator from Arizona…

“This 39 percentage point Democratic Party identification edge is larger than it has been at any time this decade,” the study said.

In 2004, President George W. Bush won about 40 percent of the Hispanic vote — a Republican record — when he beat Democrat John Kerry. Since then opinion polls showed Republican standing among Latinos had been hurt by a national debate on immigration reform

A drive by Hispanic activists is seeking to get 2 million new voters registered before the election in November…

Ay carumba!

Once again we see that McCain’s championing of amnesty for illegal aliens was all for naught.

Alas, he still doesn’t seem to be able to learn that simple fact.

I and a lot of other Hispanics I know don’t like Obama or his politics. We don’t care much for McCain either, but we’ll hold our nose and vote for him. Si se puede some where else the rest of you liberal latinos!

  2. Grumpy

Most Latinos I know are not happy about either candidate.
Most non-Latinos I know are not happy about either candidate.

I can’t imagine why that would be.

  3. ELSwanko

Wow… this deserves a comment. BHO does not know the difference between a Cuban, a Mexican, a Honduran and a Spaniard. Juan Mc wants to “legalize” all the central american wetb…. border-crossers (politically sensible?) and the latinos pollsters asked probably don’t understand what either is saying because their American is worst than my Mandarin Chinese, so we’re stuck between a Rock-er (chair) and hard something. Might as well, bring them on (on the rocks please). Anyway, all (and I mean all) latinos I know (mostly puertorrican, who happen to be citizens and speak better, or shall I say more, english than the “latinos” from the poll) can’t stand Barry, so who were they asking anyway? Johnny boy, forget amnesty, want them here? force them to come in L E G A L L Y, like we’re all supposed to do it (nowadays at least, this is not the 1920’s anyway!)…. Cheers to that, mate (insert aussie accent here!)

My spanish may be rusty (latin though I may be) but does that sign on the left actually translate to “Obama is with you”? Nope, no messianic complex here. /sarc.

Celi, left 2 right are: Obama is with you, the audacy of hope (go figure, the book’s name!, seems its in Spanish too) and “Barack is your candidate”. Its still a bucketload of garbage. The last 3 elections have been just a pile of you know what candidates. Thinking about moving to Russia. At least they don’t go for “political correctness” or stuff like that. they did screw up in afganistan too though… so , Mars… They serve booze there?

El Swanko, You might have to bring your own booze to Mars, but they do have ice. But they don’t have Ann Coulter, so I’m stuck here on Earth.

This whole message that Latinos are behind Obama confuses me. I’m involved with Latino organizations nationwide and talk to Latinos everywhere; nobody I know — I mean NOBODY — who is Latino likes Barack Obama. Some are going to vote for him because they feel like they have to vote Democratic.

I actually like John McCain. I think his problem attracting Latinos has mostly to do with the fact that Obama’s campaigners have more money and knowhow about how to reach out to HIspanic voters. McCain only recently appointed an outreach coordinator, whereas Obama’s been working on this for months if not years.

The other thing is, you don’t get Latinos to vote for you based on simply the immigration issue. You have to prove that you are going to take the community seriously and you really care about them — which John McCain could easily convey if he only had the right approach.

Obama is fake and he is going to backstab the Latino community faster than you can say “Chicago.” But for now, unfortunately, he has a slicker promotion team and McCain’s people seem to be slow in doing things.

If most Latinos actually took the time to sit down and analyze these two men’s political platforms, they’d go to McCain in a heartbeat. But they don’t have the time or they are choosing to go with the easiest messages they get from the mainstream media, which are all pro-Obama.

Maybe if more Latinos watched Fox, they would see some pro-McCain coverage. But Fox doesn’t market itself to Latinos that much. At any rate, don’t be surprised if the exit polls are very far off from these figures, because (1) Latinos might not be answering honestly to these questions from pollsters they do not know, and (2) the ones who are answering the polls may not be indicative of who is a citizen and can vote and wants to vote. Middle-class, American-born, English-speaking, assimilated Latinos are most likely to prefer McCain, and by coincidence also the ones who are likely to turn up on Election Day.

  8. dollymadison

    Ann Coulter for VP!

  9. dollymadison

I’d LOVE to look like Ann when I’m in my 30’s!

  10. Mike LaRoche

    Pour me another tequila.

  11. dollymadison

    Ann= Beautiful= America.

  12. netmomo

ROMNEY FOR VP,……. ROMNEY FOR VP………….ROMNEY FOR VP

  13. Grumpy

If McC picks Ann for VP, I’m voting for him two or three times! (I am from Chicago, after all)
But he won’t. Nor Mitt (I would vote for him as well)
I hope he doesn’t pick Richardson or Martinez…

(dolly: I wish I was in my 30’s…sigh) (I wish I could remember when I was in my 30’s)

  14. Juan Drugs

Whenever I think of Mexicans, I can’t help but think of guacamole and chips. Then I start to think about poverty, crime, and laziness. Then I think, dammit, don’t let them put their evil stink on you. And I go back to thinking about guacamole and chips and beer. And I feel much better.

  15. dollymadison

Juan, You sound kind of like a bigot.

  16. dollymadison

Grumpy, You are both funny and wise.

  17. Grumpy

dollymadison: Not wise, just old. And sad. I have seen much over many years, that causes dispair, with so much good that could have been done instead. BHO is a sham. A circus sideshow huckster. Who could put the smoothest televangelist to shame. With nothing but empty promises. The media will tell us that everyone loves him, he is our hope for the future. So I don’t blame Hispanics, they’ve just fallen into the same trap. And as others have pointed out, their embrace of Bambi is probably overstated. Deliberately, as that’s how bandwagons get going.

40 years ago, Bobby Kennedy said “I look at this country and see not what is, but what could be.”

With Obamanation, we ain’t gonna get there.

“Hispanic Voters” — What the HECK does that mean anyway??

There’s very little commonality between Florida Cuban - / NYC Puerto Rican - /Texas Mexican - Americans. HECK - There’s little commonality between California and Texas Mexican-Americans. McCain should make a statement to that effect — I think it would hit home with Hispanics.

Now is the time to pitch the old “Big Tent”, and emphasize the core Republican characteristics that unite us, and avoid the racial segregation on which the Democrats now hold the market. He’d do well to point out Obama’s philosophical similarities with Castro, Chavez, Ortega, Guevara, and the Zapatistas.

The young and ignorant masses, and old and rotting activists of all races, colors, and creeds, will always fall for the marches, Woodstock congregations, and televangelist-type B.S. Forget them - Let’s concentrate on the PRODUCTIVE members of society who, when effectively shown the basic differences between the parties, will make the wiser choice when voting.

HOWEVER…. Poisoning legitimate dialogue about immigration reform with ethnic slurs (Juan Drugs) will slam the door on the GOP to Hispanics and Moderates who can’t stomach an association with bigots. Cut it out.

Republicans need to be very careful about being accepting of ethnic profiling by police, and tolerating slurs. There’s no need to go there, making Brown the new Black, and losing voters in the backlash.
